Solomon says this because the mind of the man is so bewitched that what should be painfully obvious escapes him. Does he think he can commit such great sin and yet escape the judgement of God? The bosom is the place where the most cherished objects are held closely; should he regard her as something so special that she is given this privilege? ‘Wake up’, says Solomon, ‘Can’t you see that what you are holding close to you is fire?’ If he really understood this, he would take the fire and cast it from him.
