‘Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise.’ Here is a tremendous passage which tells us that if you want wisdom, you've got to imitate the ant. The ant is known for its busyness, its workload, its effortless self-organisation, and its apparent forward-planning. The person who gets Biblical wisdom is the person who is vigorous and willing to put in the effort to obtain something so precious. God will not give the benefit of shrewdness and insight to someone who is no earthly use to him. If he were to give them to lazy people, it wouldn't come through as wisdom; it would just turn into cunning. People who have wisdom but aren't worthy of it, just become subtle, cunning, in the wrong sense.
