Proverbs 6:7 Commentary and Bible Study

Here's the ultimate in wisdom, to have no need of a guide, a manager; the ants don't have a ruler, they just get on with it, they can be trusted, it's second nature to them. And they busy themselves, provide for themselves without being driven by an overseer. God has put object lessons in nature for us to learn from. Wisdom will come to the person who has a strong desire within them to live for God and to please him. They don’t need someone behind them all the time, driving them forward because they cannot do anything unless they are pushed. This has nothing to do with wanting to be independent and not liking to be told what to do: the one being considered is quite happy to work in a team. It is just that they have a strong sense of gratitude to the Lord that makes them want to serve him and for their lives to be profitable to him. They are self-motivated and can be relied upon to get on with the job because that is what being a complete person is about. This is someone who can be trusted to see what needs to be done and get on and do it.This tiny, tiny creature, does not have any guide like you have. You have a guide, you have the word of God, you have the warnings of the Lord coming to you through the divine word, you have an overseer. You have a conscience within you making you aware of your foolishness, telling you that there is a God, giving you an awareness of his power and his being. You have so many people perhaps trying to help you, trying to exhort you. You have a ruler, you have a God to whom you will one day give an account, and yet here is the ant with no guide, no foreman of works, no ruler to serve and to love. But just by nature, and by instinct, even that tiny creature, which must have a pretty minute brain compared with yours; even that tiny creature knows enough to provide both for today and for the future.
