Proverbs 7:14

There is a dual significance in this. When they made peace offerings, then they had the meat of the offering and they were to eat it. In a peace offering a certain amount was given to the priest, but the rest was for the person making the offering and it had to be eaten quickly. So presumably this is a bit of subtlety. The idea is, ‘I have meat. There is only me at home.’ But also there is another significance to this. You notice that this person claims to be a worshipper. We have to be very careful, sadly, the temptation to sin and to worldliness and to selfishness, to ambition, to pleasure and so on, can come through people who are fellows in the church and that also comes as a reminder from this verse.
