‘Bind them upon thy fingers.’ This is strange language to us today but it has in mind the fact that people long ago would get wear rings on which they could inscribe important sentiments or the names of people they held dear and wished to remember. These commandments of the Lord God are so important that they are to be retained where they will constantly come to our remembrance. The language is obviously metaphorical as the second half of the verse shows. We are to write them on our hearts, where we write only what is of greatest importance to us. The commands of God can be written on the mind and the will and the affections because they can only be obeyed by rational conscious creatures who gladly and willingly obey as an expression of all that Christ has done for them. Bring all you do in life under the scrutiny of God's word. Let it be guided by God's word.
