Then we come to some of the benefits once again of wisdom. ‘Counsel is mine.’ In modern language, we would say advice is mine. Wisdom is speaking to us, ‘Advice belongs to me’, and we want the advice of wisdom. Sound wisdom also, which is interesting because it probably comes from a word meaning substantiation, deep conviction. Wisdom gives us advice, but it gives us more than advice, it gives us deep conviction, corroboration of the truth. As we grow in wisdom the things we are taught not only advise us how to conduct ourselves, how to marry, how to seek employment, but they make the right way so obvious to us that it is a deep conviction. We do not constantly say, ‘O I have been reading the word of God, and I think possibly, it is telling me to do this. The wisdom of the word of God comes across to us in so many forms, corroborated so many times, that if our minds are open to it, we say it is perfectly obvious the word of God teaches this in ever so many places. So I will rest on that and act on that. ‘I give clear advice’, says wisdom, ‘which is self-substantiating and obvious.’Then he says, ‘I am understanding,’ which means if you get wisdom from the Bible you know why the Bible says what it does. It does not just say to us this is what I want you to do; it always says this is why I want you to do this.
