Solomon begins by personifying wisdom, riches and honour, but then it soon becomes clear, that he does not literally mean earthly riches, and earthly honour. He is thinking of something deeper and higher than that: ‘durable riches’, riches that last.
You can go to the university or to any kind of a college, and you can perhaps equip yourself better to enrich yourself in the affairs of this life, but to enrich and strengthen yourself in terms of controlling your own life, and even power over your bodily lusts, then you need the wisdom of God, and without the wisdom of God you cannot do it. You may be wealthy and strong, and honoured in this world, but weak and pitiful and heading for dishonour in your own bodily life without this wisdom. It is talking about a higher wisdom that affects your life and your character, and gives your strength to resist evil and temptation, and to live with increasing quality of life for the Lord.
