From the clouds come rain, the fountains of the deep, and the water systems, and the refreshing, the life-giving nature of the clouds. And once again, the wisdom of God is the real source of all certainty and all life, and all refreshment.
The clouds represent the kind of divine wisdom we have when we are believers. We understand when troubles come what God is doing, that he is permitting things, that we have a glorious future, that he will strengthen us and help us and see us through, that he may be training us, or he may sometimes be punishing us. By divine wisdom, we can make sense of even the varying things in life, like the clouds and the weather, but we do not control these things and we play no part in sending them.
The fountains represent another great aspect of life. There are set rules to which we conform. There are principles in the Scripture for life and living. We apply them; we do not try to change them. We know that we are to fit in with them just as the mariners fit in with the currents and the tides, and make use of them.
