John must preach again. He has no choice but to obey.
The work of the church is to prophesy in both respects. We not talking about individuals having a sign gift of prophecy. Prophecy in that sense ended soon after the giving of the New Testament in the days of the early church with the first apostles and that generation. We’re talking about prophecy in the sense that we proclaim Scripture, and the plans and purposes of God, and the future of the world and what God will do, and Christ’s coming again, and the day of judgement. That is all prophecy, but it’s not us claiming personal inspiration. It’s prophecy we retail out of the word of God to the community around us. Prophecy of course is not only foretelling; it is the preaching of the message itself, the historic Christian message. So we are to prophesy, in that uninspired sense, because we have been given the inspired word, before many.
