Now a new enemy of the people of God appears. When the work of the two witnesses is complete, they will be killed; some will die as martyrs.
In so many places the Scripture assures the people of God that they will overcome their enemies, even the greatest of them. ‘I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one’ (1 John 2:13). How then are these two witnesses overcome? Is Satan after all more powerful than Christians? Yes, viewed in themselves, he is undoubtedly more powerful than them. How can they do battle with the one who was created one of God’s highest angels? But some will overcome Satan by not loving ghtier lives unto death. They will love the Lord more than their own lives. God will allow this, but it will be a short-lived victory and not the final outcome.
