We are commanded to hate what is evil. This is our only safe attitude towards the world. When we feel any other emotion, we can be sure that evil has already wormed its way into our hearts. But Christians are to be discerning; they are to see as the Lord sees. Scripture is given to instruct us about evil and to take away our naivety about it. It is by reflecting on the sinfulness and the deceitfulness of sin that our minds are delivered from that fatal attraction which leads us to reach out and taste it. Let believers consider carefully the end result of sin and they will shrink back from it. Let them strip away its superficial glory, and see it for what it is: an object of loathing. That too is the work of faith.
