The narrative is in the past tense even though the events are future. It is recorded by John as if it was a historical account of something that had happened in the past.
It is fatal for any human being not to come to the Lord for salvation. There is no such thing as neutrality in this war. No man can exempt himself. Some believe that this is possible. They have no desire to come to Christ, but nor do they wish to oppose religion either. Each one should be free to do as he wishes, they say. However, they do not know themselves. They will not be able to maintain this neutrality; they will find themselves recruited into the devil’s army by default. ‘He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad’ (Matthew 12:30).
