Revelation 19:6 Commentary and Bible Study

That great redeemed multitude already seen in chapter 7 now expresses their praise to the majesty of God. This is the greatest choir which is conceivable, and every one of the saints is in it. The God of invincible power has taken up his total reign. They are a host which no man can number, redeemed from every land and from every age. Their voice is so great together that it is compared to two immense forces found in this world. It is like the sound of many waters, perhaps the sea roaring as it crashes on the shore, or the sound of a river plunging down over a waterfall and cascading onto the rocks below. The sound of these things arouses feelings of awe and opens their minds to something far greater than themselves. They sense a power that does not stop to ask permission from them. The people of God will praise the Lord and none will prevent them. The sheer volume of their praise will defy any from not joining in. They are now engaged in that pure worship that they always aspired to on earth but never achieved. All the individual local churches are combined together into the great universal church. There is no longer any division between them over secondary matters, for all understand the doctrine of God perfectly and are in perfect agreement about it.Their voice is also like the sound of thunder. Again this is a sound that man cannot help but respect. It reminds him of his insignificance and of the greatness of his Creator. The scene is in heaven, immediately after the fall of Babylon and the redemption of all believers. They are not gathered together in the presence of God. Those who were once despised on earth and considered to be worthless and less than nothing, will be transformed into a vast host whose voice shakes the ground.‘Halleluiah, for the Lord God Omnipotent reigns’. God is King in heaven. He is a King with such absolute power that nothing small or great can take place without his command. His will is the ultimate cause of all that happens. Every good and perfect gift comes from him and no evil can take place except by his permission. He is King in every place in every age. Even while this world is in rebellion, the Scripture asserts that God is King. How much more ‘when all things shall be subdued unto [the Son]’! God reigns and there is nowhere they can look where they fail to see evidence of his reign. He has ended that period of license and asserted his rule everywhere. In heaven, all his holy angels worship and adore him for what he has done for the church. The church itself now sees him face to face and rejoices with unspeakable joy that they can draw near to him and be in his presence forever. The earth has been made new and all trace of the curse removed from it. Even in hell God reigns for there at last, sin receives its due penalty and judgment is not delayed anymore. No longer are there regions where active rebellion is in progress. All is submissive to his authority.
