To understand this verse, you must put some words in brackets. The beginning of verse 5, before the word ‘but’, you want a bracket, and then you want to close the bracket after the word ‘finished’.
Futurists understand this first resurrection as a physical resurrection of believers one thousand years before the wicked are raised, but this is not supported by other passages. The Bible consistently teaches that the righteous and the wicked are raised at the same time. There is a single hour coming ‘in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation’ (John 5:28-29) – the same hour for both.
