‘Behold, I have set before thee an open door’ – they could see it; even as he spoke this door was opening. The apostle Paul uses this very terminology in three different places.
So with us. Christ opens doors of opportunity. Maybe at work, opportunities that have not been there for years suddenly begin to open up. Maybe in your family circle. Maybe in the locality with contacts, while going out as visitors. Maybe in the media if God opens the way. Maybe overseas opportunities arise on an increasing scale in which a church is able to help. Maybe among the young, the children in the neighbourhood, the teenagers, and suddenly; we have greater opportunity to reach them and speak to them. Can we have opportunities like this? Philadelphia was given them; we are given them too. Can we have them on an increasing scale? Yes, perhaps we can if we keep the same terms that they kept.
If we do as much as we can, we cannot win many in our locality with our small strength. If we apply what strength we have out of love for lost souls and concern for the Lord, and we keep Christ’s word, and we honour him, and we do not deny his name, and compromise, and give way to ease for peace and quiet, then Christ will bless us.
