Revelation 3:9

‘Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie.’ Were they Jews or not? Yes, they were Jews viewed ethnically, but what Christ means is that they were not Jews in the sense of being of the true Israel, the household of faith. They did not receive their Messiah. They did not believe him. They attacked his messengers and his servants and his churches. So he puts it very bluntly. They say they are Jews, and so they are ethnically, but not viewed spiritually. ‘But do lie.’ They are your bitter enemies.But do you know what I will do? Says the second part of the verse, ‘I will make them come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.’ Even from those hostile people, some of them so bigoted and so hard, the Spirit will move, and they will be melted down, and they will see their sinfulness and their error. They will come into the Christian church and assembly and they will listen to the word, and they will know that you were right. They will become so open and so teachable, that such strong expressions can be used to describe them. They will virtually come and worship at your feet.
Application
We do not want people to come and worship at our feet, but it is a strong expression about how the hardest people can be melted down by the Spirit of God and can hear the word and realise it is authentic, be convicted of sin and come to Christ. The promise to Philadelphia is that these wonderful things will happen because they use what strength they had, and God can amplify and magnify it, because they kept his word, and did not make use of worldly methods, and because they did not deny his name.
