The word ‘unseemly’ means deformed, or utterly shameful. What they do is shameful and it ought to make them deeply ashamed. No doubt it does, at least to begin with, but the struggle to justify sin means that the homosexual has to deal with his own sense of shame. It is a powerful witness against him that what he does is wrong. Therefore he makes strenuous efforts to throw off any feelings of shame. This includes in our own day so-called ‘coming out’ in which individuals make public their homosexuality. That is nothing more than a violent struggle to suppress a sense of shame.
What a terrible thing is today’s acceptance of homosexuality. It is a product of atheism. It is atheism and atheism alone which has produced the acceptance of such things, and foolish people who would not count themselves as atheists, but who have no real hold on God, because of pathetic thinking, accept what the atheists say: that all this is reasonable, and a legitimate way of conducting oneself. It is the product of terrible human arrogance: absolute barefaced rejection of God, and his word, and that which is natural. It is the product of cruelty: complete indifference to what happens to the next generation of people, the destruction of any potential of family life, and the natural and beautiful joys which God intends for members of the human race. Embittered older people are callous towards the young who they engage and bring into it all. It is the vilest thing on the horizon. You may say, ‘No, abortion is vile’. Yes it is murder, but the apostle selects this, as a crowning example of the rejection of God, of the Creator, and of what is natural, what is intended.
Churchmen, who open the door to this kind of thing, and acknowledge it, and allow it, and endorse it, or show any favour towards it are telling us that they themselves have rejected Scripture, rejected God’s teaching. In their arrogance have picked up their Bibles and said, ‘Well, I, with my great mind. I can decide that this can be explained away, and that is not relevant, and this does not apply anymore.’ I am not sure that in God’s sight they are not even worse than the atheist who encourages this unnatural conduct, and they are to be utterly condemned. Surely it is a sign of the awful state of this country that the established church has had an archbishop who was that position. It is the most awful thing, because this is the apostle’s crowning sin to demonstrate the vileness and the anti-God spirit of the human race.
