Zechariah 2:13

Have reverence for God, O all flesh. This is a charge given to all the world. God is risen up to act and to act in a decisive way. No longer will he allow the enemies of his people to go unpunished. Let the world therefore revere him, for he will not tolerate their rebellion any longer. John the Baptist will come and command the people to repent in preparation for the Messiah. Some will bow the knee and some will not. Some will be gathered into the kingdom and some will be cast out.When Christ rose up from his baptism, God the Father spoke out of heaven saying, ‘This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear him.’ He is the authority. ‘Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD’, and God the Father said, ‘Hear him’, and we tie these things together. Christ is the fulfilment of the prophecy; Christ is the future of the temple. Did he not say, ‘Destroy this temple and I will raise it up again in three days’, and the Jews did not understand what he meant, ‘but he spoke’, says the Scripture, ‘of his body.’ He is the temple now. Of course God never sleeps but he will manifest his power far more clearly. He will manifest it in the coming of Christ to undertake the work of redemption, and he will manifest it at the final judgment when all those who have remained obdurate will be finally cast away.

Questions

Some people teach that the temple will be rebuilt in a so-called millennial reign of Christ on earth, but you do not read that anywhere in the Scripture. You have a passage in the book of Revelation which could be thought to refer to that, but clearly does not, and one verse in Revelation 20 is transported by this particular teaching all over the Bible, including Zechariah chapter 2. It is taught, here is the future of the temple: God will return to it and therefore, it would be rebuilt one day, but that is not what the passage says. The aircraft of prophecy has taken off in Zechariah chapter 2, and it is clearly speaking of the spiritual Jerusalem and the New Testament church, talking about things that could not possibly be fulfilled on earth. They have a spiritual fulfilment and sense, and Christ is the fulfilment.
