The Branch suddenly turns into a stone; the imagery changes like lightning. ‘For behold, look upon the stone that I have laid before Joshua, upon one stone shall be seven eyes.’ The branch is Christ. In the short term, the Branch is the temple. Christ will be the embodiment of the temple. But now he is also depicted as a stone, a great foundation stone, indestructible, imperishable. ‘Upon one stone’ – that is all there is, one great foundation stone – ‘shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof.’ On the stone, on its sides and possibly on the top, there are engravings and they are engraved by God. This isn't the human temple now; this is something divine. It represents Christ and his character and his beautiful attributes. When Christ comes, the disciples – who are close to him especially, and others visited by the Holy Spirit with some semblance of faith – will see his divine attributes. They will see his knowledge, and his wisdom, and his power of course. It was displayed every day in the great compassion healings. They will see his love, and they will see it and grasp it ultimately on Calvary. They will see his infinity, which will be so demonstrated in the resurrection. They will see the attributes. The engravings upon the stone, which is Christ; the appearance of Christ and his acts display the attributes divine. ‘And I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day’, and that can only be a reference to the ultimate temple, and what will take place on Calvary. Christ and his atoning death once and for all, bringing about cleansing, pardon, and eternity for all who would be redeemed.
