People turn away from the living God, and they think they can operate a civilised society. Today in this country people imagine that they can operate a just society with mutual concern and supportiveness and law and order, but without God. But the more God is rejected the further down things will go, and yet the world refuses to acknowledge the real reason for this. Instead it blames lack of education, or bad government, or a few corrupt individuals. Every problem it tries to address, it approaches with a foolish optimism about human behaviour, and with the assumption that man can solve all his own problems without turning to his Creator.
‘She obeyed not the voice.’ It is the same with us. If we never approach God, if we never pray and we are not prepared to be ashamed of our sin, if we don't listen to the word of God and we will not trust in God, then we shall perish. The Lord will not leave rebellious man without him facing some consequences for his godlessness. God’s judgment constantly is at work, even before the final day. For now it is incomplete, but there is enough for us to know that he hates our sin, and notes our absence of meaningful worship.
