So sure is the word of prophecy that it prevails over all contrary human testimony. So strong must our faith be in his word, that we do not need to go and see if the contrary report of men is true. We can afford to dismiss it on the basis of the Lord’s clear statement in Scripture. This is not merely a matter of possibility but of certainty. They say, ‘Behold, he is in the desert’, but you do not even need to go and look. You have the word of God. But Christ said these things two thousand years before these events take place. Does he know better than those who live now and report these things to us? Yes, he knows better. He is not in the desert, where masters call their disciples to come apart from the world; he is not in the secret chambers, where teachers impart secret knowledge to their followers.
